Cuttack: Amidst heating electoral battle in the State, a BJP leader on Thursday alleged fresh poll code violation by a ruling BJD leader in Salepur Assembly constituency of Cuttack.

According to sources, Salepur BJP leader Debadutta Kar has targeted local BJD leader Girish Mohapata of violating the Model Code of Conduct during a public meeting in Salepur.

As per allegations, a video purportedly showing Mohapatra assuring people to disburse money under KALIA scheme has gone viral on social media.

In the video, Mohapatra was seen saying that the Election Commission (EC) has given permission for distribution of KALIA scheme. "Money will be transferred to the account of those beneficiaries whose name have been registered at the panchayat office," he said.

Based on the video, Kar has accused Mohapatra of violating the EC guidelines.

“In the video he was giving false assurances to the public that EC has given permission to distribute money. Through this, Mohapatra has violated the MCC and so we demand stringent action against him,” said BJP leader Debadutta Kar.

On the other hand, Mohapatra has refuted the allegations levelled against him. "To make the public understand about any government scheme, we have to explain the rules, regulations and the procedure on how to avail the benefits. I have only answered the queries of the public and there is no point of violating the MCC,” said Mohapatra.
