Bhubaneswar: Two days after release of Malkangiri Collector R.V. Krishna, opposition BJP has alleged the state govt of orchestrating the two officers` abduction.

At a press meet in Bhubaneswar, BJP leader Bijoy Mahapatra alleged that the collector’s abduction was a drama for the government’s publicity. He also alleged that the state government signed a MoU with the Maoists.

This statement comes after reports stating that the Centre was not in favour of the state government`s decision to strike a deal with Maoists for the release of two officials in exchange of freedom of some of the top Maoists from jails.

"The whole abduction episode, which raised a number of questions and doubts, must be probed thoroughly by the union government," senior BJP leader Bijoy Mohapatra told reporters here.

Asking the BJD government to explain under what circumstances it succumbed to the pressure of the Maoist-appointed mediators, he said, "it has set a dangerous precedent and sent a wrong signal in Maoist-hit states."

Pointing out that during discussions with mediators, state government officials had said there should be no coercive action, Mohapatra said such a statement was unfortunate.
"Does it mean coercive action was being resorted to all these days before Krishna`s abduction," he said.
