Baripada: BJD workers vandalised the party office at Baripada in Myurbhanj district late on Monday night. According to reports, a group of youths barged into the party office on Monday night and damaged the property inside the office which houses the youth and students wings of the party and is situated close to the Mayurbhanj SP office.

“All the accessories present inside the office including tables, chairs, ACs, lights, pictures of Biju Patnaik, Naveen Patnaik have been damaged. The person who stays here said that our own party members have vandalised the office over some issues,” an employee at the BJD party office, Shailendra Kumar Patra said.

The employees of the party office filed a complaint at the Baripada Police Station following which two persons have been arrested. One of the arrested persons has been identified as the general secretary of Biju Chhatra Janata Dal, Jeet Patnaik.

“The BJD workers alleged that some youths vandalised the party office and a complaint has been registered at the police station. The culprits have been arrested and investigation is on,” Baripada SDPO, Abhimanyu Nayak said.

Sources said, Patnaik has been suspended from the party after the incident. An employee working at the party office informed that the other youths involved in the incident are also associated with the party.

Comments from the BJD could not be obtained on the matter.
