BJD workers stage road blockade

Berhampur: BJD workers staged a road blockade at Dasamaili village in Ganjam district today in protest the killing of their party leader at Haripur on Sunday. The road communication between Aska-Sorada-Badagada was disrupted due to the road blockade agitation by the BJD supporters, mainly the villagers of Haripur, police sources said.

Congress Nayak (42), a local BJD leader and representative of Lok Sabha MP (Aska) Nityanada Pradhan in Dharakote block, was allegedly killed by political opponents in his village. Although old political rivalry existed between the two groups in the village, sudden provocation was apparently caused by dispute over pasting of posters for the three-tier panchayat elections, police said. About eight persons killed him with sharp weapons and fled from the village immediately after the incident, sources said.
