Bhubaneswar: With an aim to develop a rapport with women voters ahead of the 2019 elections, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Friday announced that it will hold 'Mahila Samavesh' in every constituency of the State.

Speaking at the State executive body meeting of the party's women wing - Biju Mahila Janata Dal (BMJD) - party president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik urged the women leaders of the party to work at the grassroots level.

Later, BMJD president Pramila Mallick said, "Mass public meetings will be organised in each constituency from September 24 to further strengthen the Biju Mahila Janata Dal. The BJD government will always work for the upliftment and empowerment of women in the State."

Speaking on BJD's initiative to include more women in the party, BJP Mahila Morcha president Prabhati Parida said, "Women will definitely be the game changers in the next election and they have already decided to oust BJD government."

She further said that the BJD will fail to garner the trust of women in the State as they have suffered a lot in the 17 years of its rule.

On the other hand, Congress alleged that the BJD is getting votes from women by cheating them.

"Claims of Odisha government that various programmes have improved the economic standards of women are totally false and baseless. If that had been the case, Odisha would not have been counted as one of the poorest states," said Sasmita Behera, president of Odisha Congress' women wing.
