Bhubaneswar: BJD student leader Chinmaya Nanda Badajena was arrested late last night for his alleged involvement in illegal firearms trade in Bhubaneswar.

Acting on a tipoff, the Special task Force of Crime Branch had laid a trap to nab Badajena. When Badajena was negotiating a deal with an undercover cop to sell a gun for Rs 45,000, the STF caught the student leader and his six associates red-handed. The STF also seized a bullet shell from the spot after Badajena carried out a blank firing to show the undercover cop whether the firearm was functioning properly or not.

Following the arrest, the STF handed over Badajena and his associates to Dhauli police to elicit further information. However, the police are yet recover the gun from Badajena.

Reportedly more than 14 cases are pending against Badajena at different police stations. In some cases, warrants were also issued against him.
