BJD observes Biju Jayanti

Bhubaneswar: The government would never compromise with the interest and self-pride of the people of the state come what may said Naveen Patnaik today in an obvious message to the Centre. Naveen was speaking at the function organised at the BJD headquarter to mark the 96th birth anniversary of legendary leader Biju Patnaik. Several senior BJD leaders and ministers paid tributes to Biju Patnaik on his birth anniversary and exhorted party workers to strengthen the BJD.

The BJD headquarter was reverberating with activities to observe the birth anniversary of Biju Patnaik which is also observed as the panchayatiraj day. The mood of the party workers was upbeat for the huge success in the just concluded panchayat elections. The meeting started after the party captain Naveen Patnaik arrived.

Naveen in his address accused the Centre for its continuous neglect of the state and laid stress on the duty and responsibility especially of the female elected representatives at the panchayat level.

Senior BJD leader and Rajya Sabha member Pyari Mohan Mohapatra demanded that the royalty on minerals should be raised to 50 per cent and also asked the party workers to win over the hearts of family members of each and every family in the state. Several other prominent leaders like Prasanna Acharya and Lok Sabha member Baijayant Panda threw light on the ideology and dreams of the legendary leaders and also spoke about some conspiracies and treachery meted out to Biju Patnaik.

Finance minister Prafulla Ghadai claimed that the per capita income in the state has gone up while there was decrease in poverty. Senior BJD MLA Anang Udaya Singhdeo said that the state government should urge the Centre to raise the Kalinga Regiment in the Indian Army.
