Sonepur: BJD Lok Sabha candidate from Bolangir Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo faced public ire in Beheramala village under Dunguripalli block of Sonepur district Sunday evening where he had gone to address a meeting as part of his campaign for the upcoming elections. A video of the incident which has gone viral on social media shows the voters venting out their anger on Kalikesh for allegedly failing to keep his promises and resolve their issues over the years.

Urging the people to vote for BJD, Kalikesh promised that farmers who have suffered crop loss due to Chakada (Brown Plant Hopper) attack would get assistance. However, the statement boomeranged on him when the public raised slogans of 'Murdabad Murdabad'.

Reportedly, the locals alleged that their appeals before the ministers and local administration have fallen on deaf ears and nothing has been done for them so far.

Later when Kalikesh claimed that Re 2 rice is being provided by the State government, locals opposed him strongly saying that it is funded by the Centre. Subsequently, the Bolangir MP had to leave the meeting.

Kalikesh could not be contacted over the issue.

On the other hand, pre-poll violence erupted in Bolangir with a BJD worker sustaining critical injuries after being allegedly attacked by some Congress activists. Some Congress workers allegedly barged into the ruling BJD’s office at Chandanbhati village under Sadar Police Station in the district late on Saturday night and attacked BJD worker Prafulla Meher. Meher has been admitted to the Bolangir District Headquarters Hospital (DHH).
