Bhubaneswar: The wife of a ruling BJD MLA on Monday lodged a written complaint with the State Commission for Women (SCW) against a party MP about abusing her and her husband.

"Rudra Madhav Ray (MP) used objectionable words against me and my husband Kashinath Mallik by taking our caste in public on May 25. It is a clear case of atrocity," Nirupama Mallik told reporters after submitting her complaint to the SCW.

"The commission has received the complaint from the Daspalla MLA`s wife against the Kandhamal MP. It will be probed," SCW Chairperson Jyoti Panigrahi said.

Ray dismissed the allegation as "false and baseless".

Nirupama`s move to SCW was followed by her husband lodging an FIR against Ray with the Daspalla police statiion.

He also lodged a complaint to the Orissa Police`s Human Rights Cell in Cuttack.

"I need justice as Ray and his supporters have hurt me by publicly taking name of my caste. They also dragged my wife`s name to the controversy," Mallik said.

Both Mallik and Ray are at loggerhead for a long time.

The abusive words were allegedly used at a party rally at Daspalli in Nayagarh district on May 25.

Although Chief Minister Naveen had advised both to settle the issue mutually, Mallik refused.
