Bhubaneswar/Ganjam: With police yet to make headway in the Polasara minor girl gang rape case in Ganjam district, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today made shocking allegations against BJD activists claiming the involvement of supporters of local MLA in the gruesome incident.

At a presser in Bhubaneswar today, President of BJP Mahila Morcha, Prabhati Parida launched a scathing attack on the Polasara legislator and alleged that his supporters are involved in the crime.

This apart, she said police knows the whereabouts of the accused but not arresting them due to political pressure. “We visited the spot and observed that police is threatening the locals. The panchayat comes under the local MLA’s constituency and the party had also organised a Padyatra on the day the crime took place,” Parida said.

Parida further alleged police has remained a mute spectator and is yet to take any action against the culprits as Chief Minister’s constituency falls under the district.

Parida also threatened that the saffron party will launch agitation across the State and burn effigy of the chief Minister everywhere if the culprits are not arrested.

However, no comments of the Polasara MLA could be obtained over the allegations made by BJP.

On the other hand, Ashish Singh, DIG Southern Range, said, “A special team has been formed to nab the miscreants and their sketch will be released shortly. We are making all possible efforts to nab the accused and give justice to the survivor as soon as possible.”

The minor girl was kidnapped and allegedly gang raped by three persons in a farmland in Balichhai area of Polasara area last Wednesday night. The survivor is reportedly undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.

Chairperson of Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Sandhyabati Pradhan, who met her in the hospital, had informed yesterday, “The survivor’s condition is stable now. She is recovering well and taking solid food as well.”
