Senior BJD MLA Ranendra Pratap Swain triggered political speculations on Wednesday after making a candid statement in the Odisha Assembly during the discussion on the Jan Vishwas Bill. Swain, while expressing what he described as his ‘Dil Ki Baat’, set conditions under which he would consider supporting the treasury bench.
Speaking in the House, Swain said he would stand with the government if it undertook measures such as implementing a complete liquor ban and acting firmly against unscrupulous industrial players involved in the power distribution sector. Referring to them as exploitative forces, he said the government must ensure accountability and transparency.
“If you can completely stop liquor, whether for your sake or ours, and if you can remove those who have spread a network of exploitation in the electricity sector, I will walk with you,” Swain said during his address.
“This my ‘Dil Ki Baat’. Samajh lo. Thank you,” Swain added.
The MLA later shared his Assembly statement on social media, which further fuelled conversations in political circles. Swain recently drew attention by participating in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme in Athagarh.

His remarks have now led to speculation about a possible shift in political positioning, though no official confirmation has emerged so far.
