In a significant political development, Jay Dholakia, son of late Rajendra Dholakia, is likely to be fielded by the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) for the upcoming Nuapada by-election. Senior BJD vice-president Debi Prasad Mishra hinted at the possibility, highlighting the Dholakia family’s long-standing contributions to the district.
Debi Prasad Mishra emphasised that, despite other parties showing their strength, it is well-known that Nuapada’s development has been closely associated with Biju Babu’s vision and Rajendra Dholakia’s leadership. Rajendra Dholakia had a remarkable political record, winning four consecutive elections and being recognised for his political acumen and social leadership.

Local BJD leaders reportedly support giving the ticket to a member of the Dholakia family to continue the legacy. The party high command is expected to make the final announcement regarding the candidate. Jay Dholakia confirmed that the decision will be communicated by the top leadership.
As part of election preparations, the BJD plans to launch a padayatra (foot march) in Nuapada from tomorrow, reaching out to local residents. Party leaders will actively engage with voters to consolidate support ahead of the by-election.
This move is seen as a strategic step by the BJD to maintain its stronghold in the district and leverage the goodwill associated with the Dholakia family.
“With all humility, I say that whatever directions will come from the high command and our former CM Naveen Patnaik, we Nuapada BJD and Dholakia family with obey, and give everything to win the Nuapada by-election,” claimed Jay Dholakia.
