Sundergarh: Amid her cold war with party's Jogesh Singh over Sundergarh Assembly constituency ticket for the upcoming elections, BJD leader Kusum Tete on Sunday resigned as the chairman of Sundergarh Special Development Council (SDC).

In her resignation letter to BJD supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Tete mentioned that her decision to quit from the SDC chairman post was based on personal grounds.

Tete informed that she wants to contest the 2019 polls and so she quit the post. However, she also expressed confidence that the party would grant her MLA ticket from Sundergarh.

“Even though I lost the election (in 2014 polls), I have worked for the people as much I could in the last five years. I am sure that the party leadership will recognise my work and grant me ticket,” Tete told mediapersons.

When asked if she would join any other party if denied ticket, Tete said that she would not have to shift to any other party as she is sure of getting ticket.

On the other hand, talks continue to build up over the future prospects of Jogesh Singh with some sources claiming that he might be granted BJD MLA ticket from Sundergarh.

Tete, who lost the 2014 general elections to Congress leader Jogesh Singh, was appointed as the chairman of Sundergarh SDC on a two-year term after Singh recently quit the Congress to join the BJD. The appointment was seen as a damage control move to appease Tete who openly opposed the induction of Jogesh Singh into the party fold.
