A day after being suspended from the party, Shreemayee Mishra once again trained her guns on the Biju Janata Dal (BJD). On Wednesday, she raised questions regarding the BJD’s internal electoral process, focusing on the way office bearers, including the party president, are elected.
Mishra, known for her articulate interventions and strong social media presence, highlighted concerns over the absence of a unique identification system for members, similar to the EPIC number used in public elections.
In a post on her social media pages, Mishra noted that without such a system, the party’s internal elections cannot be considered fully sanctioned, undermining democratic principles. The post came less than a day after the BJD formally suspended her from the party, citing ‘anti-party’ activities.
Voting System Under Scrutiny
Mishra stated that members should possess a unique identification system to cast their votes in the party elections. She warned that without it, the process is susceptible to manipulation, and the legitimacy of elected office bearers can be questioned.
This argument follows her previous posts, which had triggered debate over internal transparency and decision-making within the BJD.
Indirect References To Party Leadership
In her latest statements, Mishra once again drew from symbolic references, invoking characters from the Mahabharata and making indirect allusions to senior leaders. Her earlier remarks were pointed critiques of party governance, questioning the accountability of the leadership and the way internal elections are managed.

Mishra’s recent remarks have reignited discussions about internal rifts within BJD. Several other leaders, including party veteran and MP Debashish Samantaray, have grown increasingly distant from BJD. However, BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik is yet to comment on the growing discord in his party.
