Kendrapara: Following the demise of BJD’s Patkura Assembly constituency candidate and veteran leader Bed Prakash Agarwalla due to protracted illness, his wife Sabitri Agarwalla has been named as the party candidate for the constituency.

Sabitri's candidature was announced by BJD president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today.

“I will try my best to continue the development work that Bed babu had been doing,” said Sabitri.

The polling for the Assembly seat, which was adjourned following the veteran leader’s death, will be conducted on May 19.

A few days back, Sanjay Agarwalla, son of Bed Prakash, had expressed his interest to contest polls from the Patkura Assembly constituency following his father's demise.

Agarwal, a six time MLA and a minister, was a close aide of Odisha’s former chief minister Biju Patnaik. He was the sitting MLA from Patkura Assembly constituency, which he had won in 2014.

BJD had fielded him from the seat once again in the politically sensitive Kendrapara district this time. Sabitri will be contesting against BJP’s Bijoy Mohapatra and Congress' Jayant Mohanty.
