Bhubaneswar: A Parliamentary Party meeting of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) led by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik was held at Naveen Niwas today in presence of party's Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha members. Apart from a clear objection against implementation of certain sections of National Population Register (NPR), the party discussed various other issues while chalking out its strategy for the upcoming Budget Session of the Parliament which commences from January 31.

Addressing a presser after the meeting, party MP Pinaki Mishra informed, "BJD supports CAA but is not in favour of NRC. We object Column 13(2) of NPR form which seeks information on place of birth of an individual’s parents & as the Centre has clarified that it is optional, the norm will not be implemented in Odisha,"

Quoting CM Naveen Patnaik, the parliamentarian said that in the upcoming general Census 2021, OBC needs to be added as a separate column in the register. He said that in 2011 Census, OBC enumeration was not carried out and even by any chance if it was done, it was never disclosed due to which OBC communities, which are very important part of our society, were left out.

The party MPs have been asked to raise various issues in the interest of the State like hike in coal royalty, clean energy cess, Centre's assistance to compensate GST loss, interstate river disputes and pending railway projects in the upcoming session of Parliament, said Mishra.

Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik has advised all the party MPs to work along with the MLAs for the interest of people while seeking a performance report of the Parliamentarians every two months.

"Party supremo has advised us to present various issues at the Parliament properly. Every issue was analysed in detail in today’s meeting. We have been asked to submit a performance report in every two months," said BJD MP Sasmit Patra.
