Buguda: Tension erupted on the premises of the Buguda block office in Ganjam district today after a scuffle broke out between BJD activists and residents of Golia panchayat.

BJD's block president, party councillor, block chairperson's husband and a party worker were allegedly beaten black and blue by the villagers leaving one person critically injured.

According to sources, residents of the Golia panchayat came to meet the Block Development Officer (BDO) to complain about the lack of developmental work in the area. However, some activists of the ruling-BJD tried to stop them following which a scuffle ensued, said sources.

Stones were also hurled on the premises of the block office, added sources.

To prevent further deterioration in the law and order situation, two platoons of police force have been deployed at the block office.

Meanwhile, villagers alleged that the local MLA is scuttling the developmental projects in Golia panchayat.
