Bijepur: Putting all speculations to rest, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today named Sanath Gartia as the party's candidate for the ensuing by-election to Bijepur assembly constituency in Bargarh.

The Central Election Committee of the saffron party today released the list of 36 candidates for by-elections to the Legislative Assembly Constituencies of different States including Odisha's Bijepur.

Gartia, who had unsuccessfully contested the general assembly elections 2019 from Bijepur against BJD president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, will lock horns with the ruling party candidate Rita Sahu and Congress's Dillip Kumar Panda in the crucial by-election scheduled for October 21.

As tomorrow is the last date of filing of nomination for the by-poll, all the parties have now announced their candidates. The nominations will be scrutinized on October 1 and candidates can withdraw their papers by October 3.

The bypoll in Bijepur assembly segment was necessitated after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik vacated the seat following his wins in two constituencies, Hinjili and Bijepur during the recent assembly elections.
