Bhubaneswar: With the gazette notification for the by-election to Bijepur assembly segment being issued on Monday, the poll process has been set in motion there. The Assembly Constituency will be witnessing its second by-poll in a span of two years.

The Returning Officer has issued the notification for the by-poll scheduled for October 21. According to the notification, the filling of nomination will begin today and continue till September 30. The candidates can file their nomination between 11 am and 3 pm. The verification of the nomination papers will be held on October 1 and the last date for withdrawal of nomination is October 3.

As announced earlier, the voting will be held on October 21 and counting of votes will be taken up on October 24. The by-poll process will be completed by October 27, the notification added.

Notably, this by-poll is necessitated following resignation of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik from the seat. Patnaik had contested the 2019 Assembly election from two seats—Hinjili and Bijepur. While retaining Hinjili, he vacated the Bijepur seat.
