Bhubaneswar’s Manipal Hospital achieves major milestone in liver transplantation

Manipal Hospitals in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday achieved a significant milestone in the field of liver transplantation, reinforcing its growing reputation as a centre for advanced organ transplant care in eastern India. Senior doctors and medical experts shared insights into their clinical experience and advancements in liver transplant procedures.

Fatty Liver Diseases

Addressing the media, specialists highlighted the increasing burden of liver-related diseases in the country. Expressing concern over the alarming trend, they referred to findings from a recent survey that indicate that nearly one in every three individuals may be suffering from fatty liver disease. 

Furthermore, one in six people is at risk of developing severe liver complications that could eventually progress to liver cirrhosis if not diagnosed and treated in time.

Doctors emphasized the importance of early screening, lifestyle modifications, and timely medical intervention to prevent complications. They also underlined that liver transplantation remains a life-saving option for patients with end-stage liver disease.

Expanding Liver Transplant Services

Hospital authorities reiterated their commitment to expanding transplant services and raising awareness about liver health across Odisha.

“Sir, tried to make me understand. I asked him if this happened because of his drinking habit. Sir said no and informed me that I had Hepatitis B and jaundice. My veins have been suppressed since birth. While I was not affected during my childhood, it is appearing now due to age complications. Accordingly, I advanced with the treatment, and I’m very thankful today. Manipal is very good, and all the staff, doctors, nurses, and others were also very co-operative,” the patient told mediapersons.
