OdishaChief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday inaugurated the Bhubaneswar–Cuttack–Puri–Paradip Economic Corridor, a major regional development initiative aimed at strengthening economic integration and accelerating growth across key urban and coastal centres of the state.
The inauguration programme was held at the Lok Seva Bhavan Convention Centre in Bhubaneswar. Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra and several senior government officials were present at the event. During the programme, the Chief Minister also inaugurated multiple proposed projects under the Bhubaneswar–Cuttack–Puri–Paradip Economic Region (BCPPER) framework.
The corridor is envisioned as a strategic growth belt that will connect the state capital with major commercial, cultural and port centres, positioning Odisha as a key port-based industrial and logistics hub in eastern India.
Focus On Integrated Regional Growth
Addressing the gathering, CM Mohan Majhi underlined the economic significance of the four regions. He said, “From the viewpoint of Bhubaneswar, Puri, Cuttack and Paradip, this is the most important. From the public viewpoint as well, these four regions will play a crucial role as the growth engine of Odisha’s economy.”
He further stated that the combined economic contribution of these regions accounts for 19 per cent of Odisha’s economy. “Up until 2025, this region’s economy was recorded at 22.38 billion dollars. We are connecting these four regions with a common growth plan,” the Chief Minister said.
Long-Term Economic Vision
Outlining the long-term vision of the corridor, CM Mohan Majhi said the integrated region has the potential to grow significantly by 2047. “Only this region’s economy will reach 500 billion dollars by 2047. This region is going to be a new star in the growth sky of India,” he said.
Highlighting the complementary strengths of the four centres, he added, “Bhubaneswar’s technology, Cuttack’s business tradition, Puri’s culture and Paradip’s port — when these are combined together, they will become a great growth engine.”
Expected Impact
The BCPPER initiative is expected to promote coordinated urban development, enhance infrastructure connectivity, and attract investment across sectors such as industry, logistics, technology and tourism. The state government believes the corridor will play a key role in driving sustainable economic growth and employment generation in the coming decades.
