In a major move to ease traffic congestion in the state capital, the Works Department has decided to remove the traffic post at AG Square and construct a two-layer road system — one underground and one elevated — to ensure smoother traffic flow through the busy junction.
The ambitious project is part of a larger urban mobility plan aimed at addressing Bhubaneswar’s rising vehicular pressure.
In addition to this, the department has also proposed the construction of an elevated corridor at Kalpana Square, Khandagiri, and Jayadev Vihar to Nalco Square. The preliminary Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the corridor has already been prepared and was recently reviewed by Works Minister Prithviraj Harichandan.
The department further announced plans to construct 20 new roads across Bhubaneswar to improve connectivity and reduce bottlenecks in key areas.

A comprehensive review meeting was also held to assess the progress of various ongoing development projects in Puri, with officials instructed to expedite pending works.
“From Jaydev Vihar to Nandankanan, left parallel, right parallel, and other connecting roads for Cuttack and Raghunathpur; likewise, the connecting roads to AIIMS Bhubaneswar, Khandagiri to Jagamara, an elevated corridor road on Kalpana Square and 20 other roads are being planned to decongest Bhubaneswar. Similarly, there will be a two-level road at AG Square so that there is no traffic post there. All the details have been discussed,” informed Minister Prithviraj Harichandan.
In another significant development, the Odisha Bridge & Construction Corporation (OBCC) will soon transition to a paperless working system, marking a step toward administrative modernisation and efficiency.
