Bhubaneswar: East Coast Railway (ECoR) on Saturday announced ambitious plans to transform Bhubaneswar railway station into a World Class Station by undertaking major renovation at a cost of Rs 205 crore.
"The proposed project involves construction of a multi-level vehicle parking complex, new station building, two additional platforms, modifications to circulating area and a fly-over," ECoR General Manager Indra Ghosh told reporters here on Saturday.
He said a presentation about developmental plan of Bhubaneswar railway station to make it a world class station has already been made before Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at a high-level meeting recently.
With the help of state-of-the-art technologies, the entire station building, platforms and adjoining areas would be given a completely new look besides substantially enhancing various passenger amenities and facilities, Ghosh said.
"The total expenditure would be about Rs 205 crore for implementing the renovation plan," he said adding the multi-storied vehicle parking complex with a basement spread over 4000 square metres would cost about Rs 65 crore.
Stating that the state government has been cooperating in execution of various railway projects, Ghosh said once the work takes off, modernisation of Bhubaneswar station would be completed in three years.
Plans are also afoot to make Puri Railway Station a model station keeping in view the ensuing "Nav Kalebara" festival of Lord Jagannath at a cost of Rs 74 crore, he said adding besides construction of additional platforms, parking complexes, there would be a multi-storied 'Yatra Complex" for pilgrims with modern facilities.
