The dispute surrounding the Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar has intensified, resulting in police involvement. Amarendra Garabadu, a resident of Old Bhubaneswar, has lodged a formal complaint at the Lingaraj police station against the temple’s Executive Officer, Rudranarayan Mohanty, alleging administrative negligence that he claimed led to the dispute.
The issue reportedly arose over the ‘Kheera Aauta’ ritual, where two temple servitors were assigned their duties. Amarendra Garabadu has held the Executive Officer fully responsible for the situation. The matter gained attention as Baba Lingaraj was forced to be kept on a fast during Makar Sankranti, which continued for two consecutive days.

Ongoing Discussions and Response
The complainant, Amarendra Garabadu, said, “In my complaint against Executive Officer Rudranarayan Mohanty, I highlighted that Lord Lingaraj had to remain hungry and forced to fast for two days due to a dispute among the servitors, a similar incident had occurred in 2025 as well. Had the executive officer taken proper action, the duties of both categories of servitors could have been divided, ensuring smooth functioning. His negligence caused distress to the devotees, which is why I filed the complaint. I am confident that the administration will address the issue and ensure justice for Lord Lingaraj. All rituals will resume as usual, and if necessary, I am prepared to take the matter to the High Court.”
Need for Better Management
This is not the first instance of tension at Lingaraj Temple; similar disputes among servitors have previously caused temporary closures of temple activities. Temple authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
