Another case of alleged sexual assault has been reported from the Odisha state capital, raising concerns over women’s safety. A young woman has accused her alleged live-in partner of raping her without her consent in the Buddhanagar area under the jurisdiction of Laxmisagar police station in Bhubaneswar.
The accused, identified as Bipin Sabat, has been arrested by the police following the registration of a formal complaint.
Live-In Relationship Turns Sours
According to police sources, the survivor had been residing in a rented house in Buddhanagar. She was reportedly living in a live-in relationship with the accused at the same premises. The woman approached Laxmisagar Police Station and lodged a written complaint, alleging that Bipin Sabat had sexually assaulted her against her will.
In her complaint, the survivor stated that the accused forcibly established physical relations with her without her consent. Based on the allegations, Laxmisagar police registered a case under relevant sections of the law and initiated an investigation into the matter.
Accused Arrested
Acting promptly on the complaint, police arrested the accused and began questioning him. Officials said that further investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident. The survivor has been sent for medical examination as part of the investigation process, and her statement has been recorded.
Meanwhile, the accused was produced before the court as per legal procedures.
