Residents of Bhubaneswar have experienced relief from the winter chill as daytime temperatures crossed the 30-degree Celsius mark for the first time this season. With the commencement of the Sun’s northward movement, the state capital recorded a maximum temperature of 30.2 degrees Celsius on Sunday, indicating a marked rise in mercury and easing the cold conditions that had prevailed earlier. Night temperatures are also showing an upward trend, offering respite from the early morning chill.

According to the Meteorological Department, the shift in weather conditions is being influenced by active western disturbances that are bringing warmer, moisture-laden winds into the region. As a result, the intensity of cold has reduced, and night temperatures are expected to rise further over the next few days.

Rising Temperatures Across the State

The warming trend was evident across several parts of Odisha on January 18. Jharsuguda recorded a maximum temperature of 32.1 degrees Celsius, while Paralakhemundi registered 31.8 degrees Celsius. Sundargarh recorded 31.6 degrees Celsius, Nabarangpur 30.8 degrees Celsius, and both Titlagarh and Bhawanipatna reported highs of 30.5 degrees Celsius. Meteorologists have forecast that minimum temperatures across the state may fluctuate by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next four days.
