Bhubaneswar: At a time when rising pollution level has become a matter of concern in several Indian cities, Smart City of Bhubaneswar is too listed among the most polluted cities of Odisha.
Along with the capital city, Angul, Talcher, Balasore, Rourkela and Kalinganagar in Jajpur district are the other places where pollution level is high.
Release of untreated and polluted water from factories, extensive use of plastics and increase in emission of carbon dioxide from various sources are the prime sources of rise in pollution levels, which was revealed during a meeting of House Committee of Odisha Assembly constituted to look into aspects of environmental pollution in the State.
Similarly, tributaries of nine rivers have become polluted with Gangua nullah being the most polluted.
Odisha Assembly Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro, member-secretary of the Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) Debidutta Biswal and secretaries of different departments attended the crucial meeting today.
“Climate change, global warming and carbon emission from different factories, use of single use plastics and unclean environment are the major reasons behind rising pollution. During today’s meeting, a discussion was held on the existing arrangements and what steps could be taken in the future,” said Patro.
