Bhubaneswar Airport DGM arrested after air hostess alleges cheating and exploitation

Deputy General Manager of Bhubaneswar Airport, Umakant Patel, was arrested on charges of allegedly deceiving an air hostess by concealing his marital status and maintaining an illicit relationship. Police said the case has been registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Following his arrest on Saturday, Patel was produced before the court.

According to reports, Patel was transferred to Bhubaneswar Airport around four months ago after serving at Delhi Airport. During his tenure in Delhi, he allegedly developed a romantic relationship with an air hostess employed by a private airline, falsely claiming to be unmarried. On the pretext of marriage, he allegedly established a sexual relationship with her.

Subsequently, when the woman became pregnant, Patel allegedly threatened her and coerced her into undergoing an abortion. The air hostess later relocated to Odisha's Bhubaneswar and continued her work. Patel, too, later shifted to Bhubaneswar and allegedly continued his relationship with her.

Investigation and Legal Action

The matter took a turn when the woman discovered that Patel was already married and had a child. After confronting him, she was allegedly threatened, prompting her to file a complaint with the Airport Police Station.

Based on her complaint, the police initiated an investigation and arrested Patel. He was booked under BNS Sections 81, 82 Clause 1, Sections 89, 69, Section 115, Clause 2, Section 351, Clause 2, and Section 324, Clause 4. He was subsequently produced before the Court for further legal proceedings.
