Bhubaneswar: Citing its aim to revive Bhagabat Tungis across the State, the Odisha government today announced that it will increase financial assistance to such establishments from Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000.

The government had earmarked Rs 25,000 each for a tungi in 2014-15.

Speaking on the sidelines of the ‘Atibadi Jagannath Das Samman’ award ceremony in Bhubaneswar, Tourism and Culture Minister Ashok Panda said the grant to each Bhagabata Tungi has been increased to Rs 50,000 from Rs 25,000 for their revival.

“A budgetary provision of Rs 9 crore has been made for the purpose,” Panda added.

Bhagabata Tungis across the State have increased to 3,500, Panda stated.

He further informed that the memorial of the Atibadi Jagnnath Das in Kapileswara Sasan in Puri district will be renovated and Rs 1 crore will be spent for the purpose.
