Bhadrak jailor in soup over 'harassment' of multiple women

Bhadrak: The Directorate of Prisons and Correctional Services today transferred Chinmaya Patra, Jailor of Special Sub Jail, Bhadrak after multiple women levelled charges of sexual harassment against the official.

Patra is transferred on administrative grounds and posted to Madanpur Sub jail against existing vacancy and attached to Senior Superintendent, Circle Jail, Koraput, a notification from the Directorate of Prisons stated.

The development comes following a joint probe by DIG Prisons (Headquarters) and Senior Superintendent, Circle Jail, Baripada after two women levelled charges of sexual harassment against the jailor.

Earlier today, a married woman from Barbil area of Keonjhar filed a complaint at the Mahila Police Station in Bhubaneswar accusing the jailor of cheating her by maintaining physical relationship on false promises.

“I narrated the incident before my family members but since the accused was a government officer we kept quiet. I came to know from a regional news channel that another girl student had levelled harassment charges against the jailor and when I recognised him, I decided to seek police help. I want justice and stern punishment for the accused,” the woman said.

Earlier on Sunday, an engineering girl student had lodged a complaint at Bhadrak police station alleging physical abuse and mental harassment by the jailor.

The accused jailor is reportedly married and a father of two.
