A major cyber fraud case has surfaced in Alauti village under Bhadrak Rural Police limits, where the Bhubaneswar Cyber Cell has frozen 25 bank accounts during an ongoing investigation on Wednesday. The action follows a complaint from a youth, Gopinath Ojha, who reported a loss of Rs 11 lakh due to cyber fraud.
According to officials, the inquiry revealed financial links between multiple villagers and Amitabh Biswal, who runs a Common Service Centre (Jan Seva Kendra) in the locality and frequently handles money transfers for the residents. Gopinath had also routed transactions through him.
Following a detailed probe, the Cyber Cell detected suspicious links across several accounts and ordered them to be frozen. Reports suggest that these accounts have actually remained frozen for the past two months, creating concern among affected villagers.
Further investigation is underway to trace the fraud trail and identify those directly involved.
