Berhampur: After Sambalpur, demand over establishment of IIM has been intensified in Ganjam and Jharsuguda districts.

Normal life was affected in this south Odisha city town in a dawn-to-dusk bandh called to press the demand for locating the proposed Indian Institute of Management (IIM) here.

Vehicular traffic was disrupted as buses remained off the roads, while business establishments, schools and colleges, financial institutes, including banks were closed.

Train services in Khurda Road division were also hit for some time as bandh supporters staged a rail-roko at Berhampur railway station.

Several organisations like Ganjam Bar Association, Ganjam Chamber of Commerce, Ganjam Bus Owners Association and different political parties, including BJP, Congress, APP and CPI extended their support to the bandh called by IIM Forum, Berhampur.

Forum president Sudhir Rout said the government should refrain from setting up all premier institutes in Bhuabneswar and respect the public demand for locating the institute here.
