Malkangiri: After struggling from an unknown disease for last 13 years, Champa Kalakura, a girl from Sagriguda village in the district has written a heart-wrenching letter to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik seeking permission to end her life.
According to reports, Champa sustained a severe health setback while studying in class VII in 2006. Her family said that she felt tingling sensation in her hands and legs and despite regular consultations with doctors, her hands and legs gradually became immobile.
As Champa became bedridden and was not even for able to use her hands to eat, her family tried their best to provide her treatment and also took her to Jeypore and Hyderabad for treatment, but the cause of her illness could not be detected.
Unable to bear the pain and see her family suffer to bear the cost of her treatment amid acute financial crunch, Champa has now written a letter to CM Naveen Patnaik seeking assistance for her treatment or else permission to end her life.
“Doctors in Jeypore had referred her to Hyderabad for treatment but after some initial improvement, her health condition deteriorated badly,” said Champa’s brother Narasingh Kalakura requesting that if government provides financial aid, it would be a lot helpful for them.
Meanwhile, following telecast of the report on the girl’s ordeal in OTV, the district administrations took cognizance of the matter and immediately sent a doctor team to Sagriguda village to check her health condition.
Sources said, the administration has also made arrangements to bring Champa to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for further treatment.
