Malkangiri: Setting an example for government officials who many a times choose personal benefit over public welfare, the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Chitrakonda walked for three hours to cross rugged terrain and enter the inaccessible and hilly Dhuliput panchayat to get firsthand account of the problems inflicting the local residents.

As per reports, Dhuliput panchayat is one of seven panchayats under Chitrakonda block which does not even has proper road connectivity let alone other basic amenities.

After coming to know about the suffering of the people in the remote area, Chitrakonda BDO Larimen Kharsal along with his team walked all the way from the headquarters office to reach the panchayat.

“After reaching Dhuliput panchayat, we realised about how bad the situation is. People living in this remote area are suffering due to lack of connectivity, said the BDO.

Asked about how he would work for the development in the area, the BDO said, "Our first priority will be to ensure that the area gets road connectivity so that development in other sectors can follow suit. I hope road work will be carried out in the panchayat and its nearby areas soon which will help bring smiles on the faces of locals."

On the Maoist threat likely to give a tough challenge to proposed development in the area, Kharsal said, “There is nothing to fear as we have the support from people in the panchayat.”

While discussing with the BDO, local villagers said they have been facing problems in bringing PDS rice from the panchayat office and also shifting pregnant women and patients to hospitals in times of emergency.

Expressing happiness over presence of the BDO and his team in the village, a local said, “We apprised the officials about the road connectivity problem and demanded immediate redressal of the issue.”
