BDO ‘thrashed’ by contractor over pending bills

Nabarangpur: The Block Development Officer (BDO) of Umerkote in Nabarangpur district was allegedly thrashed and threatened by a contractor over pending bills. The incident came to light after Umerkote Police arrested the contractor today after the BDO had filed a complaint against him on December 26.

It is alleged that the contractor identified as Sanjeev Subudhi used to threaten the BDO for clearing the bills for various projects. He reportedly used to cite his connections with politicians and ministers to get his bills passed by the BDO.

However, the situation turned unpleasant after a new BDO, Yudhisthir Nayak took charge and refused to yield to Subudhi’s threats. Subsequently, Nayak was intercepted by the contractor while the former was on his way to Bhubaneswar and was allegedly thrashed and threatened.

On the other hand, the accused contractor Sanjeev has brought counter allegations against the BDO.

Hemant Kumar Padhi, SDPO, Umerkote, said “A case was filed yesterday wherein a local person named Sanjeev Subudhi misbehaved with the local BDO. We have arrested him today and registered a case against him under various sections of IPC.”
