Nayagarh: Yet again, a Block Development Officer (BDO) has courted controversy, this time allegedly by beating a man with a stick after the latter reportedly requested to clear his pending bills. The latest government official in question is Nayagarh's Nuagaon BDO Pramod Dalbehera.

As per the allegations, one Jitendra Pradhan had engaged his private vehicle on rent for official works at the block office. When he went to the office to claim his money pending for over a year and a half, the BDO concerned allegedly abused and manhandled him instead of sorting the issue.

Following the incident, Pradhan lodged a complaint with Nuagaon Police seeking arrest of BDO Dalbehera.

Upon interrogation, the allegations were found to be true as the concerned BDO reportedly acknowledged his mistake citing that his anger was an instantaneous and instinctual response to the situation. "It was unintentional. It happened all of a sudden in a fit of rage," he said.

In another incident, Odisha Government has ordered an enquiry into the alleged misbehaviour of Baliapal Block Development Officer (BDO) Chhabirani Behera towards migrant Odia workers. A video of the BDO verbally abusing the migrant workers has gone viral on social media. While Panchayati Raj Minister Pratap Jena cited her behaviour as inappropriate, the lady BDO, refuting the allegations of of the workers said that she was misbehaved with by them which made her furious.

On Thursday, an audio clip of Angul Chhendipada BDO Sunil Kerketta purportedly speaking rudely to female migrants went viral. It is being said that an altercation ensued when the returnees called the BDO complaining about the place of stay.

When contacted, Kerketta said,” All female returnees put in quarantine went on arguing to shift them to their respective blocks. I might have said something during the altercation, why should I feel sorry?”
