Bolangir: In what could turn out to be a major concern for bank account holders, a temporary staffer of Central Cooperative Bank in Bolangir allegedly looted nearly Rs 10 lakh from a customer after stealing the ATM card. However, it is alleged that police are yet to take any action.

As per reports, the accused used the Log In-ID and password of another employee, changed specimen signature of different bank accounts and modified them to withdraw lakhs of rupees. During a raid at the residence of the accused on suspicion of theft, police seized Fixed Deposit account documents of some customers.

The bank authorities also came to know that login details of some three to four employees were also used by the accused to modify many other bank accounts and steal money.

In the CCTV footage obtained by OTV, the accused wearing a helmet can be seen withdrawing money from an ATM. However, despite evidence, Bolangir Police is yet to arrest the accused.

"I have lost around Rs 3 to 4 lakh. After the incident, the bank authority asked me to write an application which I have submitted," said a victim Dharani Pradhan.

Acknowledging the incident, Branch Manager Bankanidhi Raiguru said, "Till now we have received a list of ATMs where cash have been withdrawn to the tune of around Rs 8 lakh. It is yet to be ascertained how much amount was stolen from the counter, but the number is expected to go up."
