Bhubaneswar: Odisha has witnessed a surge in sex trafficking cases with girls from outside the country being brought by pimps and engaged in flesh trade across the State.

While narrating her ordeal, a Bangladeshi girl, who was allegedly forced by a dalal (pimp) into flesh trade, told OTV that she was tortured by the pimp when she refused to get into prostitution.

Though one can't enter through the country border without proper documents, the girl revealed that she and others with her were not even frisked or questioned at the Bangladesh-India border. "Didi (pimp) used to call up the police at the border following which we had a free passage. Then Didi made us stay at some place in Kolkata."

On being asked how she came to Odisha, the girl said she was lured on the pretext of a job, but later, forced into prostitution.

"She had promised me to give Rs 30,000 salary but she never paid me, rather threatened to hand me over to police if I didn't cooperate. With fake documents, she used to send us to big hotels," said the Bangladeshi girl.

She further said that girls like her (from Bangladesh) are forced to stay in the prostitution business because their helplessness is exploited.
