Bandh over demand for district status to Dharmagarh

Kalahandi: Demanding district status to Dharamgarh members of   the Kriyanushthan Committee has been observing a dawn-to-dusk   bandh in six blocks of Dharmagarh today.

Members of the outfit were seen picketing on highways and in front of government offices from early this morning.

Normal life came to a grinding halt at Dharamgarh, Junagarh, Koksara, Jaipatna, Golamunda and Kalampur blocks in the districts due to the bandh with markets, business establishments, educational institutions and government offices staying off limits. Vehicular movement have also been adversely affected due to the shutdown.

The bandh called by the Kriyanushthan Committee has also gained support of various organisations and political parties in the district.  The agitators threatened to intensify their protest if their demand is not taken into consideration at the earliest.

Meanwhile, adequate security measures have been taken by the concerned district authorities to avoid any untoward incident.

On the other hand, the Action Committee today called for a dawn-to-dusk bandh in Karanjia protesting shifting of the office of the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) in Mayurbhanj district.

Normal life came to a grinding halt in the district due to the shutdown of markets, business establishments, financial institutions, court, government and private offices. Vehicular movement was also hit on NH–29 as the protestors staged road blockades by burning tyre.

It is pertinent to mention that palpable tension has prevailed in Karanjia after an advertisement was issued by the State government regarding shifting of DFO office.
