It was due to the presence of mind of the loco pilot of the Bhadrak-Balasore MEMU passenger train that lives of several passengers were saved.
A major train mishap was averted on Tuesday when a Memu train had a narrow escape near Nilagiri Road Baruna Singh station in Balasore.
Police sources said the nine arrested accused mostly belong from three states- Bihar, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. After contacting the aspirants, the gang members used to take them to various hotels by buses.
As per reports, the accused which included a woman from Digha, were detained by Cyber and Talasari Marine Police while they were allegedly trying to leak the question papers of the CGL exam of Staff Selection Commission to approximately 40 aspirants at a hotel in Digha.
While one of the deceased belonged to Manatri village under Soro police limits, the identity of the other rider is yet to be ascertained as his head has been crushed under the wheels of the truck.
As per initial reports, around 40 passengers were travelling in the private bus which was on its way to Kolkata from Bhubaneswar.
All seven employees, including the three accused who are currently on remand, have been suspended, informed South-Eastern Railway General Manager Anil Kumar Mishra.
In the presence of three platoons of police force and staff of the electricity, fire, excise, and revenue departments, the huts were pulled down by two bulldozers.
“The gang was operating like a corporate entity. One group was doing the planning and execution, another group used to collect local intelligence and another group used to provide vehicles and other logistics and arms,” said Nath.
According to sources, the middlemen have reportedly set up several hut-like structures on the beach and engaged women from West Bengal in the flesh trade.
Even though one month has passed now, the memories of the horrific train mishap are still fresh in the minds of passengers, who survived the accident, and locals who had launched a massive rescue operation.
