Balasore minor girl rape case: Victim retracts statement
Balasore: The minor girl of Kuruda in Balasore who had brought rape allegations, retracted her statements today terming the incident untrue.
In her new statement, the victim said, “Two people had provoked me to file the complaint and social activist Shraddhanjali Rai had written my report.”
She gave her new statement in front of the District Child Welfare Committee (DCWC).
However, social activist Shraddhanjali Rai defended herself saying “I helped her out of humanity. As the minor was a victim of rape and came to me alone at night, I had given her shelter. If the victim’s mother said that the victim was mentally unstable, the change in the statement is understood.”
On the other hand, Bhagirathi Barik, Chairperson, CWC, said “I cannot comment much as the case is open and the matter is sub-judice. Only thing I can say is that the victim is not sticking to her statement.”
The victim had filed an FIR on September 13 alleging rape by a 60-year-old man who is also her mother’s ‘paramour’. The police had rescued the girl and put her in a short-stay home.
Later, she was taken to the CWC, where she reportedly changed her statement.
