Bhadrak/Jajpur: Situation still remains grim in Bhadrak and Jajpur districts as over 53000 hectares area and hundreds of villages have remained submerged in flood waters due to rise in water level of Baitarani River.

Reports claim as many as 3.26 lakh people have been trapped in flood water. Especially, people in the Bhandaripokhari block in Bhadrak, Dhamnagar and Sahoda panchayats are mostly affected by the flood, sources said.

However, the administrative officials of both the districts have been making necessary arrangements for evacuation of people and distribution of relief materials.

As per reports, 10 gram panchayats of Bhandaripokhari block have been inundated while free Kitchen has been opened in Rampur and Sarana villages of Malda panchayat. As many as 5000 water pouches have been supplied to these two villages, added sources.

Till now, 3040 persons have been evacuated from Binjharpur block of Jajpur. The administration has also facilitated with 26 free kitchens in Binjharpur block, nine in Dasrathpur block and two in two wards of Jajpur Municipality.

This apart, the Flood/Cyclone shelters are kept in readiness with lighting and sanitation arrangements while the Collectors have ensured cooked food and safe drinking water, and other health arrangements in the shelters, informed the Deputy Relief Commissioner.
