Bhadrak: A flood-like situation has cropped up in Bhadrak district with Baitarini river breaching the danger mark at Akhuapada on Sunday.

The water level rose to 18.10 metre today above the danger mark at 17.83 metres.

Dhamnagar and Bhadaripokhari blocks of the district have been worst affected following the rise in water level of Baitarini river due to incessant rain in the past two days.

Agricultural lands in six panchayats and four panchayat of Bhandaripokhari and Dhamnagar blocks respectively have been inundated with floodwater.

Apart from Bhadrak, flood situation remains grim in Andandpur in Keonjhar district. Several areas in Ghasipura and Anandpur blocks have been marooned due to floods in Kusei and Ghagara rivers.

As crops in several acres of land have been damaged, the farmers are demanding for urgent measures on part of the administration for providing compensation.
