Bhubaneswar: Former MP Baijayant Panda today met the tribals of 'Saara' community, who have been agitating since November 16 alleging that negligence on the part of Odisha government has deprived them of their democratic right of inclusion in the tribals' list.

The tribals under the aegis of Shree Nilamadhaba Adibasi Sangha have alleged that while their land titles refer to them as 'Saara;' authorities have committed a clerical error in their caste certificates referring them as 'Soura.' Due to such a discrepancy, the inclusion of the community in the tribals' list has been jeopardised.

Former Kendrapara MP Baijayant ‘Jay’ Panda held discussion with the agitators at Lower PMG in Bhubaneswar today.

“Injustice has been done and only the Odisha government can rectify it as the problem has cropped up during English translation of the Odia word. I appeal the state government and Odisha CM to take immediate steps to rectify such clerical mistakes for which the tribals are facing problems since the last 12 to 13 years,” said Panda.

Panda further informed that representatives from 11 districts are now staging demonstration at Lower PMG.

Due to such errors, the people are deprived of their democratic rights, alleged Nilamadhaba Adibasi Sangha.

“There can be a difference in pronunciation of English words and there will be no extra financial burden on Odisha government for rectifying the mistake,” said Bhikaricharan Sahu, advisor of the Nilamadhaba Adibasi Sangha.
