Baby elephant rescued from a ditch in Rairakhol

Sambalpur: In a rescue operation that stretched for several hours, an elephant calf which had fallen into a ditch in Sana Hindol village of Rairakhol was rescued today.

According to sources, the calf had fallen into the pit and despite efforts by the locals it couldn't be rescued.

After failing, the villagers alerted officials of the forest department who then swung into action immediately.

A massive operation was then launched using a JCB machine to rescue the jumbo calf. A parallel pathway was dug up to ensure that the animal pull itself up.

The efforts of the rescue team paid when the calf finally found a way out and soon walked into the nearby forest.
