Goddess Subhadra 'daru' felled

Jagatsinghpur: ‘Daru’ (holy tree) identified for Goddess Subhadra for the forthcoming Nabakalebara at Adhanga village under Biridi block was axed this evening.

To witness the religious practice, thousands of devotes thronged the site, where the process started two days ago.

Sworti Brahaman conducted secret puja before allowing Bidyapati and Biswabasu touching the ‘daru’ with golden axe and silver axe respectively.

Afterwards, Moharana servitors started chopping the tree with the iron axe in front of thousands of devotees.

Expecting the huge crowd to witness the ‘daru’ felling, the district administration had made elaborate security arrangements to maintain the law and order near the site.
