Bhubaneswar: The state Assembly witnessed uproarious scenes and was paralysed for the third consecutive day on Wednesday over dal scam as Congress MLAs stormed into the well demanding probe into irregularities in supply of pulses for mid-day meal (MDM) and other schemes in all 30 districts.

The issue was raised by Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh of Congress as soon as the house assembled for the day.

He accused the BJD government of failing to keep its promise made at an all-party meet about investigation into supply of dal for MDM and supplementary nutrition programme (SNP) meant for children and pregnant women.

Supported by BJP members, Congress members shouted anti-government slogans as the speaker Pradip Kumar Amat allowed reading out a statement by the government side on the ongoing hostage crisis.

As Congress members displayed placards demanding a broader probe into the dal scam, Singh said the government had promised to produce all information and documents relating to the scam before the House, but it were yet to do so.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Raghunath Mohanty, however, said the government had never promised to place all documents relating to vigilance probe into the dal scam.

Opposition chief whip Prasad Harichandan of Congress, however, accused Mohanty of telling lies relating to the government`s assurance on tabling probe documents. "I will request the speaker to verify the recording of the all-party meeting," Harichandan said.

The opposition members also demanded extension of the vigilance probe to all the 30 districts instead of confining it within only five districts.

Angry over government`s "failure" to keep its word, Congress legislators trooped into the well shouting slogans.

The House was adjourned for the day due to unabated uproarious scenes.
