Assembly condols death of flood victims

Bhubaneswar: Odisha assembly was adjourned on the first day of the winter session today after making obituary reference to victims of the recent floods, a sitting member, ex-MLAs and slain police personnel. The members observed two minutes silence after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik moved the obituary reference in the house as soon as it convened.

Patnaik paid his respects to Jagabandhu Majhi, a sitting MLA gunned down by suspected Maoists at Umarkote on September 24 and described him as a great tribal leader who all along fought for the rights of the adivasis.

Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh of Congress, BJP legislature party leader K V Singh Deo, NCP legislature party leader Amar Prasad Satpathy and CPI`s lone member Adikanda Sethi participated in the obituary reference. About 86 persons were killed in two spells of devastating floods in September.
