Berhampur: The court of Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Aska on Tuesday allowed the local police to take former Sanakhemundi Congress MLA Ramesh Jena on two-day remand.

Police had appealed the court to take Jena on five-remand for interrogation on his involvement in a tender fixing case to which the latter granted two-day remand.

Jena will be taken on two-day remand on April 1 and 2 for which he will be shifted to Aska Jail from Berhampur Circle Jail on March 31. He will be shifted again to Berhampur Circle jail on April 2 after the end of the remand period.

In the meanwhile, the State Crime Branch police on Tuesday produced Jena in the court of JMFC, Digapahandi, after taking him on a one-day transit remand for interrogation in connection with the murder of former Malabhanja sarpanch Srinibas Rath in 2012.

The Crime Branch police later appealed the court to take Jana on five-day remand.
