Bhubaneswar: Member of the Parliament from Aska Lok Sabha Constituency Ladu Kishore Swain passed away late Tuesday night while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. He was 71.

Swain was suffering from kidney-related complications and was admitted to Bhubaneswar Apollo Hospitals yesterday where he breathed his last, family sources said.

His mortal remains will be consigned to flames at his ancestral village Pathara in Kabisuryanagar area of Ganjam district. "He was suffering from kidney ailments. We admitted him to the emergency ward of Apollo Hospitals after he complained of problems in breathing," his son said to OTV.

Born on July 8, 1947, Swain served as a member of the 16th Lok Sabha from Aska constituency in 2014 under the Biju Janata Dal. Swain was also elected as an MLA from Kabisuryanagar Assembly Constituency in 2004.

Leaders cutting across party lines have expressed their condolences at the demise of the parliamentarian.

President of India, Ram Nath Kovind took to twitter and said, "Sad to hear the passing of Shri Ladu Kishore Swain, MP (LS) from Aska. He contributed immensely to society in various roles. My condolences to his family, constituents and colleagues."

Similarly PM Narendra Modi also expressed his deep sympathy over the death of the MP.

"Anguished by the passing away of Lok Sabha MP from Aska, Shri Ladu Kishore Swain Ji. He will be remembered for his rich service to society. His work towards rural development was noteworthy. Spoke to his son Nachiketa and expressed condolences," tweeted the PM.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik condoled the death of Swain terming him as an 'able parliamentarian' and conveyed his sympathy to the bereaved family.

Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also expressed his sympathy.
